One of the biggest issue with travel is the chance of being robbed. As a tourist you usually stand out as an easy target. You probably have money, cameras and other valuables. If you're in the 3rd world country just about anything you have is considered valuable.

There are countless ways that you can be scammed but in this post I'm going to mention one for the boys to watch out for. This one was brougt to my attention by a friend who experienced it first hand.

If a hot girl picks you out of the crowd and shows a persistant intrest in you, then starts buying you beers, beware. The fact the SHE is buying the beers should be a warning even if you don't think it's strange that such a hot chick is interested in you out of the blue. (this becomes more of a warning signal the poorer the country... poor women are not going to be buying you beers).

Anyway, the jist is that they will drop Roofies into your drink and then proposition you back to your hotel room before the roofies kick in. You then pass out and they clean the room, your pack and pockets without a struggle. 15 hours later you wake up and they are long gone.

i just want to comment on the robbery experience
the thing is, ,no matter what you are boy or girl
or gay, don't accept the drink from stranger (NEVER)
they spot on people whom they know that must have money
plus you are ALONE, single traveller, it's easier for them
and besides, you guys can't distinguish the woman AKA
hot chick if she is just a decent one , a hot chick who has genuine interest in making freind at night (which is rare, because they don't offer beer or buy drink, that's lame for Thai women, we are friendly,but it's too lame for women to buy guys a drink) or infact just a too cheerful, enthusiastic ordinary working girl who has to make money on a nightly basis to feed their families. I know they are bad, ruining my country's reputation and everything.

Also, for me- a local, i will automatically know that they are prostitutes right away, and indeed I think they perhaps target a solo traveller because when you are alone, you have no freind to take care to share a room with it's easier for them...so for solo traveller, you are too vulnerable
As a Thai woman, if I go accompany my foreign friends explore the world in some areas (you know risky area) to see wildlife at night in the city, some girls also do approach me and ask me to buy her a drink. So working girls at night, do all sorts of things to get money. Well, go with a freind,,,,that way,, it's safer but if you travel solo...don't let anyone spike your drink

just be wary and keep an eye out for anything unusual. One can never be too safe especially if you are a foreigner.
