Our work was done in Guangzhou a few days early so I packed up my bags, checked out early, and headed to Hong Kong.
I was hoping this would be a possibility.
The flight between Guangzhou and Hong Kong took about 45 minutes. It wasn’t pleasant by any means. The plane was filthy. Stained carpet. Stained seats. Smelly cabin. I shared the flight with a load of gentlemen from the middle east who were probably in Guangzhou for the trade show. They seemed quite upset they had to put out their cigarettes in order to board the plane. They carried that attitude all the way to Hong Kong. I felt bad for the flight attendants. No one deserves that type of treatment.
Caught a taxi at the airport and made it to the hotel by noon. The possibilities of exploring Hong Kong are endless but I have to admit my curiousity has lead me to Hong Kong Disneyland.
I was more than sure I could do Hong Kong Disneyland in two days. I couldn’t check in to my room until 3:00 so I parked my luggage at the front desk and took off to the park.
First impressions of Hong Kong Disneyland. Well, first of all the great part about HK Disneyland is that if you were there just for the people watching you would think you were in Disneyland Californina. Lots of Asians.
What makes this park different is it design. Very clearly Asian architecture is incorporated all through. What’s the word, Feng Shui. There is a lot of red color on the main street buildings. Water features are all over. Flowing paths without a lot of sharp angles. This alone made it a little less stressful.
Also, it didn't seem as crowded as the ones in America. Today I explored Main Street USA and Tomorrowland. Mainstreet USA is a bit shorter than Main Street USA...America. Like I said previously lots of red on the buidlings. Best partof the whole thing was at the end of Main Street was the High School Musical:LIVE. This is a big deal in Hong Kong. So many screaming little girls! The music a mix of Mandarin and English. My niece would have loved this! What a kick.
Tomorrowland was lacking the attractions I'm use to at Disney USA. It did have Space Mountain and Autotopia (much cooler cars than what we drove on as kids) plus a few other rides that kids would love but in truth it felt like this was about half the size of Tomorrowland in California.
Tomorrow I'll explore Fantasyland and Adventureland. This is definitely something I can do in two days.
