Finishing out the week at Playa Sunzal.
Out of the wilderness now and back to civilization and electricity. We are staying at the Roca Sunzal Hotel which right on the beach. It was fun being out in the wilds of El Salvador but admit that getting into the hotel room was a good feeling.
Cleaned up and headed down to the restaurant for a hot meal prepared by someone besides me. While waiting for the table had a chance to talk to a dental team from Texas who were down here volunteering a week of their time to perform some dental checks/procedures for free. They had just arrived last night for the start of their week. Cool contribution to society.
Now, on the subject of surfing. The surf was decent. Caught some good long waves that kept me on the board for a decent 25 seconds or so. Not bad for an amateur. Spent a good part of the first day on the beach or in the surf.
Next day found some time to prowl around Tazumal, the 2000 year old ruins left over from the Mayan civilization. Amazing architecture. Only one part of them are displayed. It’s an ongoing archeological excavation. It is said most of the ancient wonder still lies underneath the earth below.
After today I plan on hanging out on the beach again for one more day, do a little more surfing and get a little more of a feel for the Maya culture. Fly out tomorrow night. This may be my last post…we’ll see.
