Today we made our way to the Great Smokey Mountains from Chattanooga.  We’ve always talked about renting a log cabin for a romantic getaway and this was the perfect time to do it.  Dollywood during the day...hot tub at night.

I didn't realize how much of a business Smoky Mountain cabin rental was.  There were signs all over Gatlinburg and Sevierville for cabin rental.  Driving through the strip of Pigeon Forge...oh dear...that is probably the tackiest strip of pavement I have ever seen in all my travels.  I am SO glad we are not staying down here.  It smells of 'tourist trap' from the second you view it out of your front window.

We took a right turn off the main drag and drove up into the mountains about 2 miles to get to the cabin rental company.  Very very friendly people.  They gave us a map to our cabin.  They said we were lucky because we got one of the cabins that sits on top of one of the ridges.  We were more than excited to get up to it.  We got our keys and directions and set off into the mountains to find our cabin.  After a few wrong turns and misread maps we finally made it to Delta Dawn Drive and our cabin.

We were told the cabin was on top of one of the mountains. Well, they weren’t lying. We had a wide sweeping view of the Great Smokey Mountains from our front porch.

Tonight we sat on hickory rockers, listening to the ceacadas, and watched the thunderstorms roll across the distant mountain tops.   Our cabin is incredible.  It’s exactly how I pictured it after watching all the Blog Cabin epidosdes on the DIY Network. The cabin is three levels.  The bottom level has access to a hot tub on the back deck.  There is also a pool table and rec area.  The main level has a full kitchen, living room and master suite.  The upper level is more like a loft with another bedroom and  a computer/tv room.  This is exactly the cabin of my dreams!

I love turning on a dirt road or a road less traveled looking for that perfect place to call it a night. My wife and used to do it all the time, sometimes not even making to a room. I can't count how many times stopping the car in a Smoky Mountain lookout to call it a night sleeping under the stars. Now that we're a little older we do like to plan out our trip and when we do it's with [ur...entals.com - They are affordable and have great lodging options. However, even though they are great we still take off on a whim to relive wild side youth. smilies/smiley.gif
